The Big Draw Part 2 was another day-long event during which we enhanced our projects using a collection of relevant built architectural precedents. The day was spent once again 'stealing' and 'borrowing' architectural details from existing buildings, however this time instead of working in plan and section we produced three-dimensional montages. I made developmental montages of the three key interior spaces in my building: the printing facilities, office space and the restaurant.
Montage of staircase
As I was designing a theatre, the idea was to create a staircase that would create a dramatic experience and give a sense of level change in the same way actors move around the stage. Three different staircases were used to experiment this. The montages show the kind of space that the staircase would be placed in.
This staircase caught my eye as it looked very dynamic and something that would stand out.
These stairs were designed to appear like they were floating in a large open space
The use of bright red metal to clad the staircase allowed it to be prominent in its context.
Elevation montage
In the first montage I looked at the elevation along the Public hall. The first elevation shows the materiality and the kind of the space that I would like to create.
