In order to understand the design of a theatre, I used the idea of borrowing architecture from built precedents like in the big draw. For this purpose, four different theatres were looked at and a SWOT analysis was undertaken which later helped in evolving the design.
National Theatre // Architect Sir Denys Lasdun

In the national theatre I chose the Dorfman theatre which was recreated by Haworth Tompkins. It has been designed to the keep the same sense of atmosphere as the previous Cottesloe theatre but to be able to provide a better experience for the audience and the actors. They have designed for it to be used as learning spaces as well. This relates to my proposal as my 'target users for the theatre spaces are children and the youth of Stretford.' This gives them the freedom use it for educational or other events.
Zonnewende Theatre Pavilion / Reset Architecture

This theatre pavilion is part of a nature reserve that includes a theatre space and an interesting pavilion at the back which can be adapted for either acting or musical performances. The reason why this precedent was chosen was because it was designed for people of that surrounding. The material choices were done to compliment the context. For this purpose brick which camaflouged with the soil was used.

The aspect that drew interest was the movement of the facade. This was an idea that I wanted to adapt to my design and relate it to the context and concept.
